Best MCP servers for designers

For designers, MCP is the difference between describing your file to an assistant and letting it read the file. A design MCP server connects Claude, Cursor or another client to Figma, Blender, a whiteboard or a design system, so the assistant can read frames and tokens, or build and change things on the canvas. This list ranks the design servers in SkillScout's catalogue by GitHub stars.

Reading versus writing

Some servers only read: they hand the assistant a file's layout, components and styles so it can write code or documentation that matches. These are the safe, high-value ones for handoff.

Others write: they create shapes, edit layers or build a 3D scene from a prompt. They are impressive and better for exploration than for production files. Work on a copy until you trust them.

SkillScout's copy of the official MCP Registry had 122 servers mentioning design apps on 27 October 2026, most without public code. The ranked list below covers the ones on GitHub.

Setting one up

Most design servers need the app open, a plugin running inside it, or an access token. The README of each entry lists the steps, and the install line shown here adds it to Claude Code. For Figma, compare the community servers here with Figma's own before you choose.

Start with a read-only server on a real file and ask for something you can check, such as the colour styles in use or the components on one screen. If the answer is right, move on to code or documentation.

The list

From SkillScout's catalogue, counted on 27 October 2026: 22 entries matched this topic, and these are the 12 with the most GitHub stars, one per project, after a review for false matches. Descriptions are each project's own. Stars show popularity, not fit.

Questions

Is there an official Figma MCP server?

Yes, Figma publishes its own. The community servers in this list are alternatives with different features, such as writing to the canvas.

Can Claude control Blender?

Yes, through a Blender MCP server. The assistant sends commands to a Blender add-on, which builds or changes the scene. Save your file first.
