Best AI tools for product designers
Most AI design tools sold to designers make pictures of screens. The ones product and UX designers keep using do something quieter: they read the real Figma file, keep the design system intact when code is written from it, and turn a rough flow into something you can click through. This list is the open-source end of that.
What to look for in an AI design tool
Ask whether the tool reads your actual source, the Figma file, the tokens or the component library, or whether it guesses from a screenshot. Guessing is fine for a mood board and wrong for a handoff.
Then ask what it hands back. A good tool for product work returns something an engineer can use: components with the names you gave them, tokens, a spec. A tool that only returns an image adds a step instead of removing one.
Servers that connect to Figma through MCP let an assistant like Claude read frames, styles and variables directly. Skills such as design-system or design.md formats tell the assistant how your visual language works, so generated UI stops drifting from it.
Where AI helps a UX designer most
The work that gains most is the work around the canvas: summarising research notes, drafting first-pass wireframes, writing copy variants, checking contrast and labels, and turning a finished file into a clean handoff. Visual direction is still faster by hand for most designers.
The tradeoff is that an assistant writing code from your file copies its mistakes too. Clean layer names, real variables and consistent components matter more once a model is reading them.
The list
From SkillScout's catalogue, counted on 27 October 2026: 44 entries matched this topic, and these are the 12 with the most GitHub stars, one per project, after a review for false matches. Descriptions are each project's own. Stars show popularity, not fit.

Questions
Can Claude read my Figma file?
Yes, through an MCP server. Figma runs its own, and community servers such as the ones in this list do the same job. Once a server is added to Claude Code or Claude Desktop, the assistant can read frames, components and styles from files you give it access to.
Is this list for UX designers too?
Yes. The tools do not split along product and UX lines, so neither does the list. A researcher-leaning UX designer will get more from the skills that summarise and structure notes; a systems-leaning designer from the Figma and token tools.
