AI tools for frontend developers

Frontend work is where AI-written code is easiest to see and easiest to get wrong. A model can produce a working React component in seconds and still miss the spacing scale, the focus states and the way your design system names things. The tools on this page help with both halves: building AI features into an interface, and getting an assistant to write interface code that matches the design.

Two kinds of frontend AI tool

The first kind is a library you build with: chat components, generative UI frameworks and agent-to-interface protocols that let a model stream structured UI into your app. Judge these like any dependency, by their API, their bundle size and how actively they are maintained.

The second kind sits next to your editor: tools that let an agent grab a component from the page, read a design file or follow your design tokens. Judge these by whether the code they produce passes your own review without a rewrite.

Keep the design system in the loop

An assistant writes better UI when it can see the rules. Point it at your tokens and component docs, or keep a short design file in the repo that describes type, colour and spacing. Without that, every generated screen invents its own.

Check accessibility yourself. Generated markup often looks right and fails a screen reader, so run an audit on anything an agent wrote before it ships.

Questions

Can AI turn a Figma design into React code?

It can get most of the way when it reads the file through an MCP server instead of a screenshot, and when your components and tokens are named clearly. Expect to fix layout edge cases and states the design did not show.

Which AI tools help most with CSS?

The ones that know your constraints. A model given your Tailwind config or CSS variables writes styles that fit; one without them writes plausible values that drift. The design-to-code entries in this list are built around that idea.
